OMAMA – July

The winner of the Andromeda Coast Obscure Music Artist of the Month award goes to…. The Midnight   Stats: Total Listens: 90 (70 in July) Top tracks Lost And Found Days of Thunder Los Angeles Runners-up: FM-84   Who is The Midnight? The Midnight is an 80s, Synthwave, Retrowave, and band comprised of. At the time of writing this, they have 6,522 “likes” on Facebook, which gives them an Obscurity Rating of 6. Pretty obscure! Similar to the winner of last month’s award, Futurecop!, The Midnight taps into the 80s nostalgia with excellent effect. Arp synth basses, simple and catchy beats, synth toms, ripping 80s-style electric guitar leads, saxophones, etc. I can listen to their songs over and over! The Midnight is a fantastic band which taps into the 80s style that I grew up listening to, while also throwing a more modern twist to it. With dance-able beats, driving grooves, and delicious cutting leads, The Midnight is a band I can listen to over and over again, and I know I will be for years to come. Soundcloud...

OMAMA – June 2016

The winner of the Andromeda Coast Obscure Music Artist of the Month award goes to….   Futurecop!                   Stats: Total Listens: 675 (75 in June) Top tracks Take My Hand Manic Pixie Dream Girls Into Your Heart   Runners-up: Mint Julep Who is Futurecop!? Futurecop! is an electronic, electro, electroclash, 8bit, valerie, synthpop, and synthwave band from Manchester England. At the time of writing this, they have 30,842 “likes” on Facebook and 28,823 listeners on Spotify, which gives them an Obscurity Rating of 1. It is fitting that Futurecop! would kick off this series, as they are also my all-time most “scrobbled” artist on Last.fm with 675 listens. I know I have listened to Futurecop! a lot more than that, however, as not all of the listens were tracked. Regardless, Futurecop! is a fantastic band which taps into the 80s style that I grew up listening to, while also throwing a more modern twist to it. With dance-able beats, driving grooves, and delicious cutting leads, Futurecop! is a band I can listen to over and over again, and I know I will be for years to come. Soundcloud  ...
Obscure Music Artist of the Month Award

Obscure Music Artist of the Month Award

I like obscure music, and not because I’m a hipster (I’m too cool to be a hipster, obviously), but because I am an obscure music artist myself. Thus, to give some love to all the amazing obscure music artists out there, I’ve decided to give them an award. The “Obscure Music Artist of The Month” award. “Obscure” is a rather vague term, so I decided to create an arbitrary definition. For the purposes of this blog series, and to keep things simple,  I’ll be highlighting music artists who have under 35k “likes” on Facebook. 35k-30k likes is an Obscurity of 1 30k-25k = O.R. 2 25k-20k = O.R. 3 20k-15k = O.R. 4 15k-10k = O.R. 5 10k-5k = O.R. 6 5k-1k = O.R. 7 >1k = O.R. 8   How will I decide who my obscure artist of the month is? Simple. Number of plays. Whichever obscure artist I listen to the most in a particular month will win the award!   If you like Andromeda Coast music, then you’ll probably like some of these artists too. Stay tuned!    ...
